
Professor Peter Kinyanjui has taught and administered educational programmes in various capacities at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, for over twenty-eight years. He was the Founding Principal of the College of Education and External Studies, University of Nairobi, and former Director of Education in the Ministry of Education.
Having trained in Geography (University of London) and Educational Communications (Syracuse University), Professor Kinyanjui pursued a professional career in open learning and distance education. He has carried out several consultancy assignments for UNESCO, UNICEF, the World Bank, Ford Foundation and USAID.
On retirement from the University of Nairobi, Professor Kinyanjui worked for the Commonwealth of Learning in Vancouver, Canada, for nearly ten years as Principal Education Specialist, and retired once again. He is currently serving as Programme Commissioner and Coordinator for NEPAD’s e-Africa Commission in charge of Human Development.
In July 2004, Professor Kinyanjui was made an Honorary Fellow of the Commonwealth of Learning in recognition of his contribution to the field of distance education, most notably in Africa.
