832 participants from 80 countries attended the first eLearning Africa conference from May 24 - 26, 2006 in the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Over 70% of the participants were from African countries which reflects the vital interest in eLearning on the continent. It also became clear that there exists an enormous diversity of approaches to deal with the challenges of ICT deployment and education in the different regions.
