The European Commission has formulated a new strategy framework for Africa, that relates to the "Millenium Development Goals" and will - through a significant budget - accelerate Africa’s development also by means of "Information and Communications Technologies - ICTs".
The new framework will build a „EU-Africa Partnership for Infrastructure“ and a number of „Access to Knowledge and Transfer of Know-how“ initiatives.

It is in this context that a number of African and European stakeholders engaged in „ICT for Development“ projects and in European IST R&D, including the conference organisers of eLearning Africa, published a declaration:
"European-African Pact on ICT for Development: Creating synergies by supporting the emerging knowledge societies in developing countries through the European "Information Society Technology - IST" Programme."
with the aim to support the new Euro-African strategy. The supporting institutions are currently in a consultation process with various stakeholders in Africa and Europe for defining the next steps.
eLearning Africa will host a pre-conference workshop on 24 May, a Special Focus Session on 25 May and a number project presentations for further creating awareness about the new EU-African R&D opportunities and for building capacities to become engaged in the forthcoming calls for proposals.
Please have a look at the declaration below and send us a message if you and your institution support the declaration and intend to become engaged in this field in the near future.
