Inviting the World to Learn and Share Ideas
Video conference at eLA
In a new feature at this year’s conference, highlighting eLearning Africa's innovative approach and setting the tone for future conferences, international guests were able to participate not only on-site in Dakar, but also via video conferences from other locations worldwide.
Video conferencing instead of a real life lecture? With cutting edge tutoring and video consulting tools, this year’s eLearning Africa participants and presenters were able to learn from international experts despite being thousands of miles away, as well as learning how to communicate simultaneously whilst working on a collaborative task. Live contributions from European experts and video messages from e-honourees, such as Internet pioneer Tim Berners-Lee, gave the event an “air of immensity”. As video conferencing is regarded as a potential means to bring learners and educators together, and is gaining ground on the African continent, the use and development of this technology in Africa will continue to be a topic of discussion at subsequent eLearning Africa events.
