DFAIT - EduCanada to Partner on Canadian Trade Mission to eLA
His Excellency Ross Hynes, Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya
The eLA@Ca working group is pleased to report that EduCanada, the International Education Promotion unit of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) has agreed to financially assist the eLA Canadian trade mission project, in partnership with the Canadian High Commission in Kenya (CHC) and the DFAIT Business Sectors Bureau.
EduCanada made its decision based on its assessment of the conference as ‘a good initiative and one that creates opportunities for Canadian eLearning companies.’ This support translates into a (first-time) Canadian pavilion, underwriting some registration costs and the creation of the eCommunity or eLA@CA portal for Canadian organizers, exhibitors and speakers.
eLearning Africa, in its second year, will take place in Nairobi from May 28 - 30, 2007.The event offers a unique opportunity for attendees from every continent to gain invaluable insights into the latest activities and achievements from the evolving eLearning world.
According to Kathy Watt, president of CSTD/LearnNB and one of the 16 organizations vying for scarce space on the eLA exhibition floor “This is potentially really good news for New Brunswick eLearning exporters. It’s been our observation that the trade officer at the Canadian High Commission in Nairobi is already working very hard on this event - both here, in advising companies on their target market focus – and abroad. This includes some market prospecting, visit information, local company information, key contacts searching, face-to-face briefings and all kinds of additional services that really make the difference in newer eLearning markets such as Africa.”
The first eLearning Africa conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in May 2006 received overwhelming response and a very positive assessment when more than 800 experts (70% from Africa) convened at the UNECA convention centre, making the conference the largest international capacity-building event on technology-enhanced education, training and development ever held on the African continent.
Through continuous preparatory work and building on the accomplishments of eLA 2006 and the partnerships established with African governments, eLA has positioned itself successfully as the annual African eLearning capacity-building event and – at the same time – a forum for all stakeholders engaged in the planning and implementation of technology-supported learning and training in Africa.
