Canadian eLearning Enterprise Alliance & Others Support ICT4D in Africa

Barry Nicolle, Chair, Canadian eLearning Enterprise Alliance

The 2nd International Conference on ICT for Development, Education and Training, which is taking place in Nairobi this May, is realizing significant and growing Canadian support thanks to The Canadian Council on Africa (CCAfrica) and the Canadian eLearning Enterprise Alliance (CeLEA), two major proponents of the eLearning Africa (eLA) conference, who have been actively engaged in promoting the participation of Canadian companies and individuals in the event.

QUCCAfrica, with the support of CeLEA, has successfully secured funding from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to support five Canadian exhibitors who wish to attend the conference. CCAfrica will be organizing the Canadian exhibit space and selecting the companies for funding consideration, based on the companies’ ability to meet the selection criteria.

In addition to actively supporting the funding efforts of CCAfrica, CeLeA is acting as a communication channel to the elearning industry in Canada by posting and distributing conference announcements, media releases and communiqués. CeLEA also assisted CCAfrica by establishing the exhibitor selection criteria.

On March 14th, an online seminar was held to introduce industry leaders and companies to this upcoming event with guest speaker Gary Stairs, a Canadian member of the advisory committee for e Learning Africa and president of Red Hot Learning Inc www.redhotlearning.com. The web seminar was presented with the support of CCAfrica, CeLEA and LearnNB, the export marketing alliance of New Brunswick learning companies and institutions.

In addition to the important work being done these groups, over 17 national organizations such as the Canadian Association for Distance Education, several New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec universities and colleges, and companies Red Hot Learning Inc. of Fredericton NB and The Lyceum Group of Fredericton and Conakry, Guinea, have all come forward in support of this important initiative. This positive response on the part of Canadian agencies, organizations and companies is an important and noteworthy step in building sustainable networks and global partnerships with our counterparts around the world.
