Canadian Speakers Confirmed for eLA 2007

Nineteen Canadian speakers, including two keynotes, have been confirmed for eLA in Kenya. Canadian presenters will be speaking on topics that address several conference themes. In addition, Canadians will facilitate two workshops, host two demonstrations, and participate in various panel discussions over the three-day event. The closing plenary will feature an interactive session with presentations from senior government representatives from a number of African nations along with other key stakeholder representatives. Keynote speakers during the closing plenary will include: Dr. Kenneth Keirstead, The Lyceum Group, New Brunswick, Canada & Conakry, Mali; and Nancy Knowlton, SMART Technologies Inc., Alberta. Canada.
Keynotes

Demonstrations
As part of eLearning Africa, the African eLearning Tools and Services Village will offer a wide variety of demonstrations using tools and services that have been developed for African learners. Demonstrations are planned regarding Open Source learning environments, tools for supporting online collaborative learning, content and technology services.
Participating in the African eLearning Tools and Services Village will be Dr. Paula Antoinette Charbonneau-Gowdy, Government of Canada, who will be conducting a demonstration on the topic Talking to Learn, and Joan Vogelesang, Toon Boom Animation Inc., Canada, who will be demonstrating The Tools to Build a New Wave of Animation in Africa.
The African eLearning Tools and Services Village, which will take place over May 29th and 30th, will give participants the opportunity to meet the people responsible for designing and promoting the tools and services demonstrated.
Workshops
Randy Morse, Indigenous Learning Company, Canada and Rick Running Rabbit, Indigenous Learning Company, Canada, along with Prof. H.O. Kaya, North-West University, South Africa and Dr. Otsile Ntsoane, National IKS Office, South Africa will be conducting the workshop Indigenous Knowledge Systems & Appropriate ICT Solutions: An Educational Revolution for Africa.
The workshop Managing and Integrating the Cultural Dimension of Online Learning will be facilitated by Dr. Aline Germain-Rutherford, University of Ottawa; Barbara Kerr, University of Ottawa and Genny Villa, English Montreal School Board.
