eLearning Africa 2007 – Kenya to host second eLearning Africa Conference

Second eLearning Africa conference under the patronage of Kenyan Minister for Education, Science and Technology – Conference Focuses on “Building Infrastructures and Capacities to Reach out to the Whole of Africa”

Berlin/Nairobi. eLearning Africa 2007, the second International Conference on ICT for Development, Education and Training, will take place from the 28th to the 30th of May, 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya under the Patronage of the Kenyan Minister for Education, Science and Technology, the Hon. Dr. Noah Wekesa, MP.

The title of the conference is Building Infrastructures and Capacities to Reach out to the Whole of Africa, reflecting the significant efforts of African countries to set up their national and regional ICT infrastructures to create access to education, training and services for all. At the same time, they are working to provide the capacities for all stakeholders to efficiently exploit the huge potentials advanced telecommunications technologies offer for the benefit of the people of the Continent.

The conference will bring together high-level policy makers, industry leaders, as well as R&D experts and practitioners with their counterparts from Asia, the Americas and Europe. Together they will take account of the challenges, achievements, and the strategies forward in discussing trans-continental cooperation schemes for Africa. An African Summit for Technical and Vocational Education and Training will highlight the great relevance of this educational sector for mass education in developing countries.

Consistent with the 2007 theme, Building Infrastructures and Capacities to Reach out to the Whole of Africa the event itself will reach out beyond the conference center and will feature large-scale lectures in Kenyan universities, addressing both fundamentals as well as R&D topics in technology-enhanced education and training. In addition there will be two break-out workshops addressing the needs in rural areas and regional institutions: one in Mombassa on the Indian Ocean and one in Kisumu on Lake Victoria.

eLearning Africa is a new conference organised by ICWE GmbH and Hoffmann & Reif that focuses on ICT for development, education and training in Africa. The event will establish and link a network of decision makers from governments and administrations with universities, schools, governmental and private training providers, industry and important partners in development cooperation. Each year a different African country will serve as the venue.
