Berlin, Germany. Lusaka, Zambia. Teachers and technologists gathering at the eLearning Africa 2010 conference will be working on an all-African agenda to empower education systems on the Continent through latest learning technologies. The largest pan-African conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for development, education and training will take place from May 26th – 28th in Lusaka, Zambia.
To ensure the participation of African learning experts with financial constraints coming from all countries, the eLearning Africa conference organisers have set up a scholarship programme. Through the support of donors and organisations providing grants, education professionals from every African nation and region are provided with the opportunity to learn how to expand their educational systems. Since the first event in 2006, more than 450 attendees were supported through a scholarship. Organisations interested in contributing to the scholarship programme can contact the organisers at info@elearning-africa.com.
“We are facilitators, we use our resources to bring people together, but the platform is that of the acting organisations and project coordinators, the people in the field of those countries. To provide the whole picture it is very important that experts from every single level participate: an African minister for education as well as a committed teacher from a local project”, says conference organiser Rebecca Stromeyer.
In 2010, conference participants will find “eInclusion”, “eHealth” and “Green IT” high on the agenda. International organisations including the African Virtual University, the World Bank Institute and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will join grassroots organisations to enrich the conference programme with presentations about the work of battling illiteracy in Southern Africa, promoting gender equality in Mali and encouraging participatory communication in East African refugee camps.
eLearning Africa is accompanied by an exhibition and demonstration area where leading international eLearning manufacturers, suppliers and service providers present their latest products and services. More than 1500 education professionals from around the world are expected at this year's event. The conference is held in English and French.
