Imasiku Nyambe

Imasiku Anayawa Nyambe is an Associate Professor of Geology in the School of Mines’ Geology Department, University of Zambia. He is currently the Director of the Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Zambia, coordinating research and post-graduate studies in all the nine schools of the university. He is also the Coordinator of the University of Zambia Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Centre. He developed the IWRM Centre to bring together expertise from range of Schools, Departments, and disciplines at the University of Zambia to address water issues in Zambia; long record of international collaboration including collaboration with US and European universities, research institutions and NGOs.  He is also the current Chairman for the Geological Society of Zambia and a life member and former Secretary General of the Geological Society of Africa.

Prof Nyambe is currently the Secretary and Coordinator of the Zambia Water Partnership (ZWP). Since 2000 Nyambe has led the Zambia Water Partnership and was a founding member and first interim Chairperson of the Global Water Partnership – Southern Africa.

As an Associate Professor in the Geology Department, Prof Nyambe researches on geology, groundwater, environment and IWRM in Zambia. Prof Nyambe has undertaken research and consultancy assignments, which have led to publications of over 40 papers and reports (including book chapters) on water (hydrogeology), geology, and related environmental concerns in mining, land-use, Remote Sensing and GIS.

Prof Nyambe was a founder member of the Southern African Network for Training and Research on the Environment (SANTREN) based at the University of Zimbabwe where development of e-learning material was one of the activities. He also participated in the Mining Sector Diversification Programme in Zambia in which e-learning material for small-scale miners were developed. At International level, Prof Nyambe is a co-leader of WorkPackage 3 of the African-European Georesources Observation System and as an Advisor on SPLASH – a name of the European Water Initiative European Research Area Network (EU-WI ERA-NET).
