Charles Kakuhikire Twesigye

Dr Charles Kakuhikire Twesigye is the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences  at Kyambogo University, and current chairman of the International Organization for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (IOBB) founded in 1968. Dr Twesigye was Associate Principal Investigator (API) during the development of the e-learning project “Upgrading the Training of Mathematics and Science Teachers by Incorporating ICTs through Open Distance and e-Learning in Uganda” which is currently being implemented by Kyambogo University.

Dr Twesigye is President of the Uganda Society, a multidisciplinary organization founded in 1923 as the Uganda Literary and Scientific Society, and Chief Editor of the Uganda Journal, first published in 1934. Dr Twesigye is a fellow of the East African Quaternary Research Association (EAQUA), and a Member of Uganda National Sciences Academy (UNAS). DrTwesigye is a senior researcher with the Lake Victoria Research Initiative (VICRES), a multidisciplinary research group sponsored by the Inter-University Council for East Africa and working on natural resources management projects in the East African Great Lakes Region. Dr Twesigye has over 67 publications including journal articles, book chapters and books covering Natural Resources Management, Remote Sensing Applications, Integrated Water Resources Management, Water Pollution Control, Evolutionary Biology, Ecological Genetics and Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). Dr Twesigye has presented over 20 papers at International Conferences in USA, Australia, Mexico, Denmark, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Bujumbura, Tanzania and Kampala. Dr Twesigye’s current research interests include molecular evolution mechanisms among African cichlid fishes and the use of ICTs in teaching Biological Sciences for enhanced learning, innovative thinking and creativity.
