Description The use of electronic portfolios offers learners an easy and convenient way to improve their learning management. ePortfolios have also proven to be effective teaching tools to empower students. The speakers in this session will highlight the benefits of the different tools used for this purpose, as well as discuss how to maximise their functionalities. Networking between higher-education institutions, whether globally within a discipline, or among departments within larger universities, can be substantially facilitated through the application of collaborative technologies. Presenters in this session will share strengths from their institutions’ networking experiences. Whereas large-scale mining companies in Africa are committed to improve staff training, mining safety and environmental sustainability, the more isolated small-scale mining companies are poorly managed. This session, featuring experienced mining scholars and practitioners from Zambia, focuses on how technologies enable training, safety and sustainability, and improve management of small-scale mining companies. Is learning a boring and tedious process? Simulated and virtual learning environments are highlighted in this session. The presenters show how to combine a pedagogical approach with playful learning and also illustrate the need for virtual environments in multilingual and multicultural settings, offering learning in a fun and enticing manner.
