Content:

Presentations on the background and genesis of FEWA/FEAO. Situation analysis of academic collaboration between West African centres of learning (French and English), and association with institutions in the developed West. Terms of reference for FEWA/FEAO and founding principles of operation. Open discussion of membership and advantages to join.

   

Target Audience:

Academic leaders (private and public), providers to African institutions from the West (primary, secondary, technical, tertiary and distance education).

 

Prerequisite Knowledge:

Experience or observations regarding curriculum development, delivery systems and teaching methods, ICT, and interest in collaboration.

Outcomes:

  • Full understanding of limitations and obstacles presently facing development and collaboration between pan-West African centres of education, and affiliation with the developed West.
  • Consensus around the need for an association to facilitate collaboration.
  • Agreement around priorities for the first year of FEWA’s operation.
  • Funding agreement concerning membership and operating costs.
  • Nomination of an advisory committee.
  • Agreement about publicity and marketing.

  • Background and events leading to the formation of FEWA/FEAO – presented by DrKeirstead.
  • Suggested framework and plan of operation – presented by Mr Timothee Coulibaly.
  • Target stakeholders and sponsorship strategies (classification of West African members, classification of “Western” members, and provider groups) – presented by Ms Fatoumata Dabo.
  • Barriers to implement and how these can possibly be obviated.
  • Infrastructure suggestions and first year strategies – presented by Dr Eben Otuteye.
  • Proposed bilingual website plans and suggested content – presented by Mr Timothee Coulibaly.
  • Structured workshop and input by attendees.
  • Consensus on plans and programs for year one of FEWA/FEAO operation.
