Gertrude Mwangala Akapelwa

Dr. Gertrude Mwangala Akapelwa, is the first woman to be a Founder and Vice-Chancellor of any university in Zambia. She founded the Victoria Falls University of Technology (VFU) in Livingstone, Zambia and she is the Chairperson of Victoria Falls University of Technology Ltd Board, the Vice Chancellor of the University and has 49 years working experience in leadership, strategic management and operational functions in sectors such as Information and Telecommunications Technology, Development and Commercial Banking, University Education, Hospitality and Tourism, General administration and Human Resource Management.

Dr. Akapelwa served as the Chairperson of the Zambia ICT Authority (ZICTA) Board, the regulator of the ICT sector in Zambia and she also sat on the Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) Board for 11 years and the Zambia Railways Board for 3 years. She also served the African Development Bank (ADB) in different capacities for 23 years, in Ivory Coast and Tunisia.
