Mark Hoeksma is a teacher and researcher at the University of Amsterdam specialized in professional teacher development. In Amsterdam he supports university teachers to develop their teaching competences. Since 2008 he has designed and managed various training programs for teacher development in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and South Asia. He is currently engaged in researching the effect of an innovative in-service training for primary school teachers on the topic of Active Learning in Ethiopia. Central to the approach in this training is the use of interactive courseware and video training techniques. Over the past years he has offered various trainings for education for international education professionals in the Netherlands, Kenya, Bangladesh and Ethiopia.
